I wrote an entry called Practice What You Preach. The basic premise was that we should live in accordance with our professed beliefs. Today I’m saying something completely contradictory. Who cares if you do and say something different every time. It keeps things interesting.
While it couldn’t hurt to live in conjunction with our declared values and perspectives, it’s not the end of the world if we don’t. We are human beings right? Humans are fallible. We are by our very nature, inconsistent. After all, we’re always bouncing all over the place and we hear Voices in our heads.
Social pressure to behave in ways that people expect us to behave can be tremendous at times. It’s like giving a sumo wrestler a piggy back ride from Tokyo to Tampa. Heavy does not begin to describe “The Situation,” no not that situation (if you’ve ever seen the show Jersey Shore). Take some time once in a while to break the mold and challenge how others see you. It’ll be fun and you’ll keep everyone guessing.
Dare to be different. If you’re wild and crazy, tone it down, see how people respond. Are you the quiet one? Go out and party! Maybe everyone thinks you’re a health nut, surprise someone and take a bite off of that twinkie.
Keep people on their toes. Keep yourself on your toes.
Consistency is overrated.
