« Top 10 Reasons to Take a Job You Hate »
Certainly most people will advise you to pursue your passion. Even I advocate this approach in life, but consistency is overrated. Here are the top 10 reasons why you should take a job you think you will hate:
-
You might hate it now, but it could end up being a likeable job after all. It could just be an “acquired taste,” like food that’s green can be for a child.
-
You’ll obtain a skill set you probably never imagined. (Who knows, you might even learn to fly like superman, or fall like a rock).
-
It’s a great way to build an expanded network in new areas, which you can leverage and reciprocate within sometime in the future.
-
The people you work with could make the job tolerable. You might even make great friendships. (Or the people could make it miserable, but shhh…I’d bank on the first one because optimism pays off).
-
With a high unemployment rate, you might not have much of a choice.
-
Finding a job you hate could be better than carrying over $100,000 in debt for school loans. (Though getting another degree might be fun!)
-
It could toughen you up a bit if you’re a softy (like me)!
-
If things really do get bad at work, it’ll be much easier to quit than if you were at a job that’s just okay.
-
You could always call it an “experience” if things don’t go well. Here is a resource on how to manage hardships.
-
Last, but certainly not least, you will learn more about yourself than you could ever imagine. Taking a job you hate will quickly make you understand what you want in a career.
So these are just some of these are the top 10 reasons to take a job you will hate. Do you agree? Disagree? Any other suggestions?
