“Nothing great in the world has been accomplished without passion.”
- Georg Wilhem Friedrich Hegel
Two weeks ago I wrote an article on the Top 10 Reasons to Take a Job You Hate. Just by reading the title, you might think that I’m opposed to passion.
The opposite is true.
In the first line of the piece I say, “Certainly most people will advise you to pursue your passion. Even I advocate this approach in life, but consistency is overrated.”
Today, I’d like to talk about how passion is power.
Passion creates energy, energy creates power
Passion defies the laws of physics.
The law of conservation of energy says that: energy can neither be created nor destroyed.
I dare say that there is nothing farther from the truth than this preposterous statement.
Passion creates energy.
When you have strong feelings for something, you obtain motivation. When you are apathetic and disinterested, you feel drained. Motivation gives you energy to do things. Having the energy to act, empowers you.
Passion is a compressed fireball waiting to launch you forward.
Passion –> Motivation –> Energy –> Power
Passion gives you power.
Your passion empowers others
Passion is contagious.
When people see that you are passionate about something they become excited as well!
Think about it, when you notice that a person is enthusiastic about something it piques your interest. You also get excited and curious about what this person is doing.
Let’s take another example, smiling.
Smiling is a form of passion. It shows that you are conscious of and indulging in the moment. Have you ever noticed the viral effect of smiling? People that see you smile can’t avoid smiling themselves.
Those who wield the sword of passion harbor the power to inspire others.
Your passion –> Your power –> Others’ passion –> Others’ power
Your passion has the power to give other people passion. When other people gain passion, they obtain power. Thus, your passion also gives other people power.
Passion is invincible
Nothing can stop you when you have passion.
You may encounter a few minor setbacks along the way, but in your mind nothing can prevent you from achieving success.
Rejection cannot hold you back. Anxiety ceases to exist. Mistakes become opportunities.
Don the armor of passion and you will have the power to succeed.
There is nothing more impenetrable than passion.
Drink passion responsibly
“Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.”
- John Emerich Edward Dalberg Acton, first Baron Acton (1834–1902)
Be careful of becoming punch drunk with passion.
Lord Acton touched on an important point. All too often when people are in a position of influence, they have abandoned the public’s trust in self-service. Avoid this at all costs.
Our passion is a source of strength. It propels us to new heights and enables us to accomplish our goals. No dream becomes unreachable. Ensure that your dreams are not harmful to people.
Our passion is contagious. We ignite a spark in others when they observe our zest for life. Harness this power to influence others. Channel this influence over others toward good causes.
Our passion is bulletproof. Though we may deflect any blows we receive by people who may try to stop us in our paths, be careful of becoming deaf to the voice of reason.
Take this into consideration, but remember:
“Nothing great in the world has been accomplished without passion.”
