In this world, there are two extremes of people.

There is the “yes” man, and then there is “no” man.

The “yes” man tries to please everyone.  He is eternally bound by the will of others.

The “no” man tries to please himself.  He is eternally bound by his own will.

Then there is the “maybe” man, who sometimes does things to please others, and sometimes to please himself.  He undergoes a more complex process of thought in making a decision.

This is the Yes-No Sandwich.

One slice of “yes” bread, a slice of “no” bread, and the “maybe” meat in between.

Doesn’t this sound tasty?

Sure, when you eat the sandwich the first time it tastes pretty good.

On the other hand, when you take your leftovers home and reheat the sandwich, you’re in for an unpleasant surprise.  The bread becomes soggy in the microwave, and it becomes dry in the oven.

In my experience, the sandwich rarely turns out just as good as it did before, because something is always wrong with the bread..

The same goes for the “yes” and “no” people in this world.

Everything is great at first, but as you add more pressure and heat to the situation, something’s goes wrong with the “yes” and “no” people.  The “yes” man gets stretched too thinly, becomes unhappy, and feels as though he’s going to crack.  The “no” man just isolates himself further and further.

Neither slice of bread is sustainable.

So rather than pressing the “yes” or “no” button without thinking, become a “maybe” man, take the time to ponder the matter, and live a well-balanced lifestyle.
